A good jacket is that final layer to complete your look. Something that will keep you warm, and hopefully dry, while looking good at the same time. From classic bombers to statement coats, we've got you covered, no matter the season or occasion.

But a coat isn't your final stop on the route to staying warm this winter. As every mom out there will tell you, a proper strategy against the elements is to layer up.

Rather than wearing a jacket that'll might render you too hot or too cold, layering involves wearing multiple layers of clothing on top of each other.

This creates a system of insulation that traps warm air close to your body while allowing moisture to escape, keeping you dry and comfortable. And if you're too hot, you simply take off a layer.

Moms always know best.

The three-layer system

We like to approach layering with a simple three-tiered system.

1. The base layer
2. Mid layer
3. Outer layer

Best strategy depending on the weather

You can adapt each layer depending on the conditions, however we would suggest:

• Cold and Dry: Base layer, mid-layer, and insulated jacket.
• Cold and Wet: Base layer, mid-layer, and waterproof jacket.
• Cold and Windy: Base layer, mid-layer, and windproof coat.
• Mild and Dry: Base layer and mid-layer or softshell jacket.
• Mild and Wet: Base layer and waterproof jacket.

Base layers

Short or long sleeve t-shirts are fine here, however we suggest checking the weight of the cotton and choosing appropriately.

Veynd's V_LYFE range has a range of cotton weights for t-shirts, joggers, sweaters and hoodies. You'll see either 150, 220, 370, or 420 in the name and this denotes the weight in GSM or g/sqm. This stands for grams per square meter and is the total weight of the fabric if it was one meter squared.

If you're venturing out into genuinely below-freezing temps, you might want to go for one of our base layers, either short or long sleeved, which will keep the cold air out.

Mid layers

So called because they sit neatly between the base and the outer layer. Genius.

Again, depending on the conditions, you'll want to go for a mid layer that's either warming or just something to keep the wind out.

Outer layers
